Today in math class, we learned about multiplying and diving polynomials. Here is an example that we worked on today.
Basically, it's like 2 and 3 are multiplying and x and x are multiplying.

PICTURE MODEL
The first factor is always on the left. **Exponent law for the multiplying
The second factor is always on the right. exponents is you ADD them**

We also started dividing Polynomials

**The thing that will mess you up MOST is remembering the variable and its exponent*
REMEMBER: The exponent law for diving is you subtract the exponents.

Positive divided by a negative = negative

Hey Guys ! :) Today we bacically just played on www.mathplayground.com. We played with Save the Zogs. Here are some screen shots of the game.

If you take the first picture you basically have to save the Zogs by finding out what line they are. For example: if you look at the first photo the 4 Zogs. They make like a line. Right? What line do they cross ? If you look at it, it crosses through 6y so the line is y=6.

Sorry, that the last picture is too small to see. But on this last picture, it's different from the first picture I showed you. For this one you must use the tracking controls, to move the line and to rotate it. Then select the value for the equation, so that the line matches up with the Zogs.
So you either move or rotate or both, to get the line to match up with the Zogs. Then you have to determine the value of the equation.

To find out the answer if you don't see it. Here's an example on how to find the answer. On this question...

So the answer will be.

Homework:
-write in your journal
-go and try the Math millionaire

Sorry, if i posted it too late. So anyways, props to Liem for the pictures. So, PLEASE COMMENT !!! HOPE YOU LIKE IT :D and the next scribe will be ..... Kara!!

Hello "The Class"! Sorry, that I posted it so late.
So, today in math class we went to the LAB! (: Once we got our computers logged in, we visited www.mathlinks9.ca. We when to chapter 4 We first started of with proportioner.

Proportioners:
The purpose for site, I never really got it. It was confusing for me. So, if you want to check it out here's the site: http://seeingmath.concord.org/resources_files/Proportioner.html. Also if you still don't get it, click on the user's guide and read the instructions (as Mr Backe would say).

Here's another site about proportioner. The purpose for this site is, I'm not also sure because I couldn't find the instructions. But you want to check it out, here's the site: http://www.explorelearning.com/index.cfm?method=cResource.dspDetail&ResourceID=195

The last site that we went on was, we when to web games and click on scaling jigsaw. Here's the site: http://pbskids.org/cyberchase/games/sizeandscale/sizeandscale.html.
Now for this one, I understood it very well. You must make each puzzle pieces fit the puzzle by making it larger or smaller. This game was pretty fun. So, if you liked it, you should play it again.

HOMEWORK:
~write in your journals
~study for the next test

Well, that's it. Hope you liked it, sorry that it was late and a lot of them was not clear. PLEASE COMMENT ON MY MISTAKES OR ANYTHING !! :) The next scribe will be......................... Liem! DUN DUN DUN :) LOL

Question #9

Friday, November 27, 2009
HI, EVERYONE !! Today I'm going to try and explain question #9 from the textbook.

Problem:
Lori owed her mother $39. Lori paid back 1/3 of this debt and then paid back 1/4 of the remaining debt.

Question:
How much does Lori still owe her mother ?

It says here that Lori paid her mother back 1/3 of $39. Now, let's find out what 1/3 of $39.

39/1 x 1/3 = $13 So she paid $13 and she still owes 2/3 of $39.
So, we have to find out what 2/3 and here's how you find it, 39 - 13 = $26. She still owes her mom $26.

So, now its says here that she paid 1/4 of the remaining debt. Now, let's find out what 1/4 of $26.

26/1 x 1/4 = 6.50 She paid back $6.50 from $26. And she still owes 3/4. Now let's find out what 3/4 is. So you have to subtract $6.50 from $26 and this is how you do it, 26 - 6.50= $19.50.

So, Lori still owes her mother $19.50 .

I guess that's it. I hope you guys understand it :D PLEASE COMMENT ON MY MISTAKES !! Thank you for reading my post :)

Hello 9-05 ! Sorry, that's this is a late post. So, let's do a recap on yesterday's class. We went to the computer lab and Mr. Backe showed us some sites that we can go to, like http://www.nlvm.usu.edu/ and http://www.lumosity.com/.

First, we went to http://www.nlvm.usu.edu/ and we went on Fraction Adding. Here's an example on what we did on this site.

Here's the instruction :
To find a common denominator, use the up and down arrow buttons located under each whole.
The up arrow button increases the number of parts a whole is divided into. The down arrow key decreases the number of parts.

For this question the denominator is going to be 6 because both 3 and 2 goes into 6.

Here's the second instruction :
Once a common denominator has been identified, type the names of the equivalent fractions into the appropriate boxes. Check your answer by clicking the Check button. If you have correct names with the same denominator, the next step in addition will appear.

Now the last part of this question is adding this all together.

The second site that we went on is http://www.lumosity.com/.
On this site, we first had to sign up for an account. After we made an account, we went on Problem Solving Game called Raindrops. On this game, we had to solve the equation before is falls down. During the game, we will see a sun. And if you got the question inside the sun right, all the other raindrops will dry up. Then, if you can't an equation, the water well rise. If you missed three raindrops, the game well be over.

HOMEWORK :
- read 2.3 from the textbook.
- write in our journals

Thanks for reading my post :) Sorry that it's late. Hopefully you guys understood my post. PLEASE comment on my mistakes and I'll try better next time. So, THE NEXT SCRIBE WILL BE ... CHRISTIAN ! Have a great week-end!

Question #12

Friday, November 6, 2009
12. A pelican dives vertically from a height of 3.8m above the water. It then catches a fish 2.3m underwater.

a) Write an expression using rational numbers to represent the length of the pelican's dive.
b) How long is the pelican's dive?

Hi everyone!! Sorry, that this is a late post, but at least i did it :D
So, here are my answers for Question 12.

a) It says here that the pelican dives verically from a height of 3.8m above the water. (3.8) Then it says here that it then catches a fish 2.3m underwater. (-2.3). So, I think the expression using rational numbers to represent the length of the pelican's dive is 3.8-(-2.3)

b) For this one. I just added 3.8m to 2.3 like this 3.8+2.3. Then i got this for the answer 6.1m.
So, then this is the whole rational expression. 3.8-(-2.3)=6.1m
Well, that's all. Please comment on my mistakes. Thank you ! :D
