Hey guys sorry this post is late! I had volleyball practice and I had some chores to do, well here's my scribe.

We went over some more questions so here they are.

Here's some different questions.

Here's one more.

This is what we did at the beginning of the class, and for the rest of the class we worked on 6.1(if you haven't finished yet) and 6.2. Our homework for tonight is to finish all our work because it is due tomorrow! Well anyways that's all for now. Please comment and find some mistakes. Mistakes are good, because we learn from them. :) Anyways, bye!

Hey guys! Sorry that my post is really really late! Well anyways. On January 29, we had a math test. Our test was about scale diagrams, enlargements and reductions. In my opinion I thought some questions were easy, and some were quite hard. I didn't do so well on that test, but next test I will do better! :)

I'm gonna be choosing one question from each heading ex. multiple choice, short answer etc.

Multiple Choice
1. A scale of 2:5 means
a) there are 2 units of the image for every unit of actual size
b) there are 2 units of the image for every 5 units of actual size
c) there are 5 units of the image for every unit of actual size
d) there are 5 units of the image for every 2 units of actual size
ANSWER: B

Completion
7. The enlargement of an image is 3 times the size of the original. The value 3 represents the _________.
ANSWER: Scale Factor

Short Answer
11. In a drafting class, students must create reductions of actual objects for technical diagrams. Barry wants to use a scale factor of 0.25 to draw a machine part. If the actual object has a width of 100cm, what should the width of Barry's drawing be?

ANSWER:
100 x 0.25 = 25
The width of Barry's drawing should be 25cm.

Anyways, that's all the different parts to the test. There was only 16 questions. Please comment and help me make my post better! :)

Question #18

Friday, November 27, 2009
Hey 9-05! Mr.B assigned us some math questions again, and I got number 18. Here it goes. Oh and make sure to comment about my post, please point out some of my mistakes to make my post better! :)

Here it goes!

One ninth of the height of an iceberg was above the surface of the water. The iceberg extended to a depth of 75.8 m below the surface. What was the height of the iceberg above the surface? Express your answer to the nearest tenth of a metre.

Here's a picture to help you out.

Okay, we know that the iceberg below the water is 75.8m and the iceberg above is one ninth. We need to find what the measurement of one ninth of the iceberg. So we have to divide the measurement of the iceberg below by 8. Now, if your wondering why we have to divide it by eight, it is because it is eight ninths of the iceberg. How do we know 75.8m is eight ninths? Well if you read the question, the question tells us that the iceberg that is above the water is one ninth, so that makes the bottom below the water eight ninths. So we have to divide the numbers.
So, when we divide the two numbers we get 9.475. Wait! The question tells us to round the measurement to the nearest tenth. When we round the number 9.475 we get 9.5. Also, we must not forget to add the unit value! Which is meters. One ninth of the iceberg is 9.5m. The height of the iceberg above the water is 9.5m. Now we've got the answer!
Thanks for reading guys. Reminder, please comment on my post to make it better! :)

Question #27

Friday, November 6, 2009
Hey 9-05, Mr.B assigned me question number 27. If I have any mistakes please comment and help me out! Please and thank you (:

27. The mean of six rational numbers is -4.3.
a)What is the sum of the rational numbers?
The sum is -25.8.

If you're wondering how I got my answer, all I did was multiply -4.3 with 6. Why did I multiply with 6? The statement above says the mean of six rational number is -4.3. To find the mean you have to add all the numbers and divide the sum by six. When you divide -25.8 by six the answer will be -4.3.

b)If five of the numbers each equal -4.5, what is the sixth number?
The sixth number will be -3.3.

The question tells us that five of the numbers equal -4.5. So I multiplied -4.5x5 and it gives me -22.5. If the sum is -25.8 you just have subtract -22.5 and you get -3.3. So if we multiply -4.5 with 5 and add -3.3 you get -25.8 (the sum) and if you divide -25.8 you get -4.3.

Okay, Im done. But please don't forget to comment and find my mistakes if I have any. Thanks you guys! (:

Hey 9-05! I'm really sorry for the late post! Okay, a recap about tuesdays math class. We started off class with 20 minutes of work time. We worked on pages in the textbook. Also, we talked about dividing negative and positive numbers. Just before I explain about dividing negative and positive numbers I would like to tell you guys about what we learned about equations mean in sentences.

x+y=z
addend plus addend equals sum

x-y=z
minuend subtract subtrahend equals difference
x÷y=z
dividend divided by divisor equals quotient

(x)(y)=z
factor multiplied by factor equals product

You guys should try to memorize this because we might need it. Anyways, back to dividing negative and positive numbers.
If the dividend and divisor are both positive the quotient will be positive.
If the dividend and divisor are both negative the quptient will still remain positive.
If the dividend is positive and the divisor is negative the quotient will be negative.
If the dividend is negative and the divisor is positive the quotient will be negative.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We also talked about Order of Operations. Mr.B told about casey's question. It was something like this.

What did he do wrong there? He thought since they're was three decimal places the answer will have three decimal places. Casey should've thought about the order of operation. (BEDMAS)

Parenthesis (Brackets)
Exponents
Division
Multiplication
Addition

I am really really sorry! I was having a hard time on the division. Please comment and help me out please! This gave me a headache. Also, I'm sorry there isn't alot on this post, but please comment and help me learn from my mistakes so next time I'm the scribe I will do a better job! 9-05 all the way ! :) Oh, and the next scribe is ADRIAN R ! :)
