Scribe Post :)

Hey guys! :) As if I was chosen to do the scribe.. AHHH. Anywho today in the beginning of class we went over our homework. People asked about #9 and 10.. "Mr.B" answered the questions for everyone to understand.

Number 9 was 2+ (-3/8) :

This is how to get the answer. I'll explain it, if you don't get it. K, remember mathmaticians or whatever are lazy. They dont put that 1, so I added it in. After that you need to get the common denominator. We can use 8 for both. So how do you get that number 1 to become a 8. You multiply it by 8 and then you do the rule, you know the rule. Whatever you do to the bottom you do to the top. I multiply the 2 with 8 and get 16. Which makes the original 2, 16/8. You leave -3/8 as it is, because the denominator was already 8. So you dont need to multiply anything. Then you take both numerators and add it, 16 + (-3/8)= 13. So you get 13/8, you leave the denominator as it is. After that you make it a mixed number. How many 13's go in 8? Just 1 then 5/8 will be left, so your final answer is 1 5/8.

Number 10 was 9 1/8 + (-2 1/3) :

To get this answer. You seperate the mixed numbers. Then you add 9+(-2) which is 7. After you must find the common denominator for each fraction. You do that by multiplying 8 and 3. The two denominators, and when you multiply the two you get 24. Then the rule kicks in, whatever you do to the top you do to the bottom. For the first fraction I get 3 from multiplying 1 and 3. Then I get -8 for the second fraction because I multiplied -1 and 8. After that you add 3 + (-8) the two numerators and you get an answer which is -5. The denominator stays as 24. Then you add 7 with -5/24 and you get the final answer of 6 19/24.

After we talked about the two questions that some people had difficulties on, "Mr.B" gave us 3-4 minutes to check are homework with someone.

We then moved on to SUBTRACTING FRACTIONS!! "Mr.B" told us to show how to subtract proper, improper and mixed numbers. We needed 2 examples, my 2 examples are...

Proper - 2/4 - 1/9 = 18/36 - 4/36
= 14/36
Simplified = 7/18

3/4 - 5/8 = 6/8 - 5/8
= 1/8

Improper - 14/7 - 16/9 = 126/63 - 112/63
= 14/63
Simplified = 2/9

9/3 - 11/5 = 45/15 - 33/15
= 12/15
Simplified = 4/5

Anywho, we had some homework. This was the homework for today! :) I hope you guys finish.

Homework:
1) -6 1/3 - 3 2/5
2) -4 7/9 - (-2 1/18)
3) -64/13 - 32/26
4) 17/18 - 4/9
5) 4/5- 3/4 - (-2/3) - 1/2
6)-8 - 1 1/4
7)-4 1/4 - (-5/2)
8) -(-2 1/3) - 4 1/6
9) -(-9/4) - (-4/9)
10)7/8 - (-5/6) - 3/4 + (-1/2)

I'm done now! :) Tah Tah for now! AHAHA, oh and I'm sorry this is so late. I had practice til 7 and I had to go somewhere afterwards! :)

Great job Alyanna! Great use of colour! Nice explinations, it was very easy to understand. I also like all of the pictures too. I think you made a few grammer errors but those are minor mistakes. Great job again!
