Order of Operatons

Hi "The Class" sorry my post was so late, by the way Mr. B asked me to scribe about BEDMAS or Order of Operations. BEDMAS stands for:

B-rackets

E-exponents

D-ivide ORDER OF OPERATIONS

M-ultiply

A-dd

S-ubtract

In order to solve a question with multiple operations (add/subtract, multiply/divide) there is an order to follow often referred to as 'BEDMAS'
BEDMAS is an acronym that stands for;
B-bracketsE-exponentsDM-multiply or divide (left to right)AS-add subtract (left to right).
This is to help students remember what order to do the work in.

Example:

• As you can see above we started with brackets.
• then we did the exponents.
• Followed by multiplication or division
• then end up adding or subtracting

Hey 9-05! I'm really sorry for the late post! Okay, a recap about tuesdays math class. We started off class with 20 minutes of work time. We worked on pages in the textbook. Also, we talked about dividing negative and positive numbers. Just before I explain about dividing negative and positive numbers I would like to tell you guys about what we learned about equations mean in sentences.

x+y=z
addend plus addend equals sum

x-y=z

minuend subtract subtrahend equals difference

x÷y=z

dividend divided by divisor equals quotient

(x)(y)=z

factor multiplied by factor equals product

You guys should try to memorize this because we might need it. Anyways, back to dividing negative and positive numbers.

If the dividend and divisor are both positive the quotient will be positive.

If the dividend and divisor are both negative the quptient will still remain positive.

If the dividend is positive and the divisor is negative the quotient will be negative.

If the dividend is negative and the divisor is positive the quotient will be negative.

We also talked about Order of Operations. Mr.B told about casey's question. It was something like this.

What did he do wrong there? He thought since they're was three decimal places the answer will have three decimal places. Casey should've thought about the order of operation. (BEDMAS)

I am really really sorry! I was having a hard time on the division. Please comment and help me out please! This gave me a headache.
