Question Number 22

Friday, November 6, 2009
Hey, here is my math question. (:

An aircraft was flying at the altitude of 2950 m. It descended for 3 minutes at 2.5 m/s and then descended for 2.5 minutes at 2.8 m/s. What was the planes altitude after the descent.

First lets see, the altitude of the plane is 2950 m.
It descended for 3 minutes at a rate of 2.5m/s
3 minutes = 180 secs at a rate of 2.5m/s
180 x 2.5 = 450 m

It then descended another 2.5 minutes for 2.8m/s
2.5 minutes = 150 secs at a rate of 2.8 m/s
150 x 2.8 = 420 m

2950
- 450
420
--------
2080 m

The plane's altitude after the descent is 2080 metres.

Heres a picture!

Great post Liem! One little thing that you could have explained, is how you converted the minutes into seconds. Anyways great picture and good job explaining the question!
